Our first project: how can students find dogs to walk?
Launching our first project:
We have launched our first project! We wanted to find ways students could walk dogs, and so we are pleased to announce that we're setting up a society at the University of Bristol (called 'Dog Soc'), to help bring student dog-lovers and community dog-lovers together #togetherisbetter.
What is its purpose?
The society will enable people to walk dogs as volunteers for local people, as well as considering options for assisting local dog rescue centres.
It aims to hold and promote events and talks that raise awareness about ways dogs can improve lives, and ways in which people can get involved with dogs in their local community.
Why are we doing this?
Our mission at In Your Dog House Gifts is to build a dog-loving community that brings people and dogs together to share the joy of dog companionship with those who can most benefit from it.
Setting up a society at a local university is a project we feel strongly about. Leaving home to go to university is a big move that can leave some people feeling anxious or lonely. In fact, a recent survey found that over 70% of students admitted to being lonely whilst at university.
We've done our research, and know that spending time with dogs can increase happiness through providing companionship, reducing stress and anxiety, and alleviating symptoms of depression. Dogs are commonly used in therapy for these exact reasons.
You can read more about the science behind dogs and happiness here.
Stay tuned in to keep updated on our progress with setting up Dog Soc and any projects it undertakes in the future.
If you have an idea or a project that involves improving the lives of people and dogs, we'd love to hear about it! Please get in touch with us, tell us about it or send us pictures!

Hi, I am the secretary and fund-raiser for The Original Westies Rescued UK (WRUK.) We are a national dog rescue group who re-home Westies (and sometimes other breeds!) from all over the UK and Europe. We have dogs in our care who can never be re-homed for health reasons and must stay in a permanent foster home. We pay all their vets’ bills, etc etc and are always looking for ideas to fund-raise. My appeal to you is to help us with ways to raise funds for our dogs, some of whom are in kill-shelters in Romania and who have horrendous health problems and need urgent treatment. Any ideas you could suggest would be most welcome.
